Getting started

Your first project, start to finish

Install the Windows app, sign in, create the studio and invite the team. Then add one project, plan its shots, and send one client link. Everything else can wait.

Projects & shots

Statuses that follow the work

A project moves through the studio pipeline: Lead, Quoted, Planned, Accepted, Working, In review, Waiting on Client, Approved, Delivered, Completed (or Cancelled, Failed / Lost). Each shot inside it has its own stage.

Shot stageWhat it means
To doPlanned, not started.
In progressSomeone is working on it.
Internal review / Client reviewA version is with the team, or with the client.
ChangesNotes came back; it’s being revised.
BlockedWaiting on something: plates, a decision, another shot.
ApprovedSigned off. Ticking a shot done approves it.

Every shot can carry an owner, a start and due date, a priority, an estimate in hours, notes and one level of subtasks. Overdue shots turn red.

Timeline

Move a date, and later shots follow

The Timeline tab shows each shot as a bar from start to due, with today and the project’s delivery date marked.

Reschedule

Drag a bar to move it, or its edges to change the start or due date. Arrow keys move a selected bar a day at a time.

Link shots

Drag from a bar’s end dot onto another shot, or use “Waits for” in the shot’s details. Orbit refuses links that would loop.

Knock-on effects

When a shot slips, the shots waiting on it move later if they’d overlap, keeping their length. Approved shots stay put.

Broken links

If a shot starts before what it waits for, its arrow turns red. Click an arrow to unlink.

Review & client links

Notes on the frame, and links that behave

Review a cut with frame-accurate scrubbing, timecoded notes and drawings on the frame. Compare two versions side by side. Frame.io notes can be brought in when you connect an account.

One link per person

Each recipient gets their own link, with an expiry and a view limit, and you can revoke it any time.

Watermark and view log

The viewer’s name is burned into playback. Every view and download is logged.

Money

Received, outstanding, and nothing counted twice

Draft invoices in your studio’s own template and export them. Log payments against the invoice as they arrive, including partial ones. Expenses sit next to the project they belong to.

Card payments through Stripe, with sales tax at checkout, are on the roadmap.

Voice rooms

Rooms, screen share and control

The studio lounge and review rooms live in the sidebar of the desktop app. Share a screen or a single window from Orbit’s own picker, with system audio.

Remote control

You can let someone in the room control your screen. Ctrl+Alt+Esc takes it back from anywhere.

Browser guests Coming

Client guests joining from a browser, with a lobby the host controls.

Ask Orbit

Ask in plain words

Ask Orbit answers from your studio: projects, shots, deadlines, invoices and payments. It can make changes too, like “move delivery to Friday” or “invoice Aurora”, and every change comes as a card you apply or undo.

Account

Your sign-in

One Orbit account per person. From account security you can sign out of every device at once.

Two-factor sign-in is on the roadmap.
